How to swap crypto without creating an account
Most exchanges make you open an account before you can see a rate. A swap bot works the other way around. You ask for a quote first, and you only commit anything once you have seen the number.
What you do and do not provide
You provide two things. The pair you want, and the address you want the coins delivered to. That is what a swap physically needs, because the route has to know where to send the output.
You do not create a login, you do not connect a wallet, and you never hand over a seed phrase or a private key. Anyone asking for those is not running a swap, they are stealing from you.
Individual routes set their own conditions and can apply their own checks to a given transaction. Those conditions are shown before you deposit rather than after.
The order things happen in
Pick the coin you are sending and the coin you want. Enter an amount. The bot returns a live quote with the amount you can expect to receive.
Give your receiving address, and a refund address as well. Then the bot shows a deposit address with a countdown, and you send within that window.
Status updates arrive in the chat until the swap lands. Nothing is held in an account at any point, because there are no accounts.
What to check before you send
Check the receiving address character by character. A swap is a real on chain transfer and it cannot be reversed if you paste the wrong destination.
Check the network as well as the coin. The same ticker often exists on several networks and they are not interchangeable.
Check whether the quote is labelled fixed or floating, because that determines whether the amount you were shown is the amount that lands.
If it is your first time with any service, send a small amount first and watch it complete before you trust it with more. That applies here too.
Common questions
- Is a swap without an account safe?
- The absence of an account removes one risk, which is a company holding your funds and your identity documents in a database. It does not remove the ordinary risks of an on chain transfer, so you still need to check the address, the network and the quote before you send.
- Why does it still need my address then?
- Because the coins have to physically arrive somewhere. A destination address is not identifying information in the way an account and an identity document are, but the route carrying your swap does see it, along with the address you sent from.
